# 8. Spam calls

How the receptionist recognises sales calls and other unwanted contacts, and whether it declines them or takes a short message.

**Content → 8. Spam calls** decides what happens with sales calls, robocalls, surveys and other contacts you don't want to put through. It works on the phone and in chat.

| **Recognise spam calls** | Switches spam recognition on or off. On by default. | — |
| **What counts as spam here** | Added to the AI's own definition (sales calls, robocalls, surveys), for example *"Competitors checking our prices, recruiters, anyone offering SEO or advertising."* Never spoken. | Only the AI's own definition is used. |
| **What happens** | **Decline** (say no and hang up) or **Note** (take a short message, then say goodbye). The normal goodbye follows either way. | **What is said when declining** | Type a sentence to have it spoken as written. | **What is said when offering a message** | Declines and offers the message, which starts right after. | The receptionist phrases it, for example *"I'm sorry, we don't take sales calls, but I can pass on a short message."* |

## How it shows in a conversation

In this chat test, a visitor offered SEO and advertising packages. The receptionist recognised it as spam, declined politely and, because **What happens** is set to **Note**, offered to pass on a short message, confirming the phone number it already knew:

## Tips

* Choose **Decline** if you never want to hear from sales callers. Choose **Note** if you'd rather review them occasionally.
* Send spam messages to a **separate mailbox** with *Email for spam messages*, so they don't clutter the front desk.
* Add terms that are specific to the business, such as competitor names, to *What counts as spam here*.
